Spartan is a relative to the Mcintosh variety from Canada, the result is that Spartan is an apple that is considered to be hardy and performs well in our UK Climate.
As well as being enjoyed for its hardiness it is also enjoyed for its ability to help a collection of surrounding apple trees pollinate. It creates a healthy ecosystem resulting in stronger yields of fruit. You can expect Spartan to ripen a little later than some other varieties that you may have. Harvesting will be around October time, Spartan apples when ready will hold on to the tree comfortably for one to two weeks, so you can pick and enjoy over a period of time.
