Pepper Seeds 'Sweet Winner'

  • Rounded fruits that look like tomatoes
  • Very productive variety
  • Sweet, dark red flesh
  • Grows well in a greenhouse or outdoors

This very productive sweet pepper certainly is a winner, producing an abundant crop of large round fruits that look like tomatoes, turning bright red when ripe and with delicious sweet dark red flesh. Sweet pepper ‘Winner’ is a vigorous variety suitable for a large container and will grow well in a greenhouse or outdoors.

Sow indoors

Level fill a module seed tray firming with the base of another tray. Water well with a fine rose. Sow seeds individually and cover with 1cm (½ in) layer of fine compost. Place in a propagator at 18-25°C (65-75°F) or cover tray with cling film and leave in a warm room. Keep moist.

Grow on

When shoots appear, remove cling film. Keep seedlings in a light position, but shade from direct sunlight. When plants have 4-6 leaves transplant to 9cm (3½ in) pots of potting compost. Grow on in a minimum temperature of 15?C (60°F). Pinch the growing tip to encourage bushy growth.

Plant out

Plant into growing bags or the greenhouse border when the first flowers have opened. Alternatively grow in containers in a warm sheltered spot on patio. Support stems with canes as they grow.

Aftercare

Water regularly and feed weekly with a liquid fertiliser as fruit start to swell. Use good quality compost suitable for containers, water regularly and feed with a liquid tomato fertiliser.
